Productivity and competitiveness are important segments of economic growth and development, and we know that productivity and competitiveness depend on the rate of technological change - the speed of innovation. A country that seriously understood this message is China, which boasts of an extremely high economic growth in recent years, and which today is the second most powerful economy in the world. The main generator of economic growth in China is innovation - large number of patents. In fact, in a short period of time, China decided to change its economic policy, so it turned from traditional agriculture and production to innovation activities. In this paper we explore some basic features of the patent as a major ace in the race in innovation. We analyze the main factors that caused the great progress of China in the field of patent activity. Accordingly, we will discuss the patent issue as an important indicator of economic growth, in the following areas: 1. The concept and characteristics of the patent; 2.
